 Terms & Conditions

  • The person commissioning the work, the client, will be deemed to be legally authorised to do so and will be responsible for the payment of fees and costs due for work carried out by the conservator.

  • Any additional costs (e.g. for specialised scientific analysis or testing, or restoration of non-ceramic parts of the object) will be for the account of the client.

  • The cost of packaging and transport of the object will be for the account of the client even if it is decided not to commission the proposed treatment.

  • The object remains at the entire risk of the client. Insurance of objects submitted for inspection, estimate and/or treatment, including in transit both to and from our studio, is the sole responsibility of the client.

  • Whilst reasonable precautions are taken with objects in our care we cannot accept liability for any damage to or loss of the object however and by whosoever such damage or loss is caused.

  • Estimates are valid for a period of 30 days from the date of the estimate after which we reserve the right to revise the estimate.

  • Should a better treatment be identified during this period a new estimate may be made on the basis of the new treatment.

  • The conservator will endeavour to ensure that the final price is within the agreed estimate (plus any agreed additional costs) but reserves the right to increase the price where the work required proves to be greater and/or more time consuming than originally anticipated. In such an event the client will be notified, in the manner agreed, and advised of the revised estimate as soon as the revised findings become apparent.

  • Where the conservator has commenced the agreed treatment and the commission is cancelled by the client prior to completion, the conservator shall be entitled to require payment of that part of the estimated price proportionate to the amount of work carried out.

  • The conservator will endeavour to complete the work by the estimated completion date but any dates and/or periods of time stated are estimates only.

  • Notwithstanding that all treatments are carried out to the highest standards, no warranty in respect of the quality or durability of the final result is implied or expressly given.

  • Payment for treatments performed will be due upon collection or prior to dispatch of the object from our studio.

  • If the object is not collected or arrangements made for its dispatch, by the client, within six months of the date of notification of completion, then ownership of the object shall pass to the conservator who shall be free to sell the object and from the proceeds recover such sums as may be due for treatments carried out (including any additional costs incurred). The conservator will hold the  balance of the proceeds (if any) for the client for a further period of six months from the date of sale of the object, but thereafter will be entitled to retain the balance of the proceeds, if not claimed by the client by then, for the conservator’s own benefit.
